Manfrotto: Pictures of Life Awards

In 2015, NYC SALT partnered with Manfrotto for the international Picture of Life project, selecting five students to participate in a unique exploration of how change shapes their lives and communities. With guidance from professional mentors and access to Manfrotto’s industry-leading equipment, students developed photo essays that combined technical skill with personal storytelling. Their work was exhibited alongside projects from young photographers around the world, and one NYC SALT student received a $1,000 award from Manfrotto for an outstanding photo essay.

Through this experience, students learned how to conceptualize and execute a photo essay, developing skills in visual storytelling, narrative structure, and documentary photography. They also gained hands-on experience in planning shoots, editing images, and presenting cohesive bodies of work that communicate complex ideas and emotions.

NYC SALT continued this collaboration in 2016, participating in the Picture of Life project under the theme “Invisible Cities.” This partnership allowed our students to expand their creative abilities, connect with a global network of peers, and share their stories through the powerful medium of photography.
