NY Times Lens Blog: My Hometown
The New York Times Lens Blog invited us at NYC SALT to take part in their “My Hometown” project, an exciting initiative that called on high school students across the country to create a visual and narrative portrait of America in the 20th century. Our students rose to the occasion, using their cameras and storytelling skills to capture the unique character, diversity, and everyday life of their New York City neighborhoods.
We are incredibly proud that the images our students created for this project are now part of the Library of Congress collections, preserving their work as a lasting contribution to America’s visual history. Through this collaboration, our young artists not only showcased their talents on a national stage but also shared authentic perspectives of their communities, ranging from quiet moments in local parks to the vibrant energy of city streets. The “My Hometown” project allowed our students to amplify their voices and visions, and we are honored to see their stories inspire and inform generations to come.
