JORDAN maRTINEZ

Teaching Assistant & Alumni

Jordan Martinez (b. 2006), New York-based artist, had a passion for art ever since he stepped foot on this earth. His love for photography began at the age of 14 during the peak of the pandemic. It started as an activity to keep busy. Soon after, photography became a way to express himself. He took advantage of his father's camera to take photos of nature. As time went on, he wanted to explore more about the art of photography.

In 2021, Jordan joined NYC Salt. Here he met like-minded people and developed a passion for photography. Photography helped him make new connections with others, which was something that was difficult for him pre-pandemic. His work reflects everyday people and the daily occurrences of life. Jordan enjoys bringing out the colors of his work because he believes that it brings out the realness in humanity.

In 2022, his photo,“Understanding who we are”, was featured at the Rockefeller Center in a photography series called “MY NY” where Jordan got to represent the borough of Manhattan. His main goal is to tell a story through an image. One of his series, titled "Spanish Harlem", showcases the many faces and joys at " El Barrio", located in East Harlem in NYC. It is important for him to document his Puerto Rican culture through street photography.

He is currently working at NYC Salt as a teaching assistant in our Introduction to Photography class. He is also studying photography and is in his second year at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology).
