Documentary Class Highlights: Oliver Rothman - 'Plaza'

Our Documentary Class Highlights series continues to illuminate the profound narratives emerging from our student exhibition, each offering a unique perspective on the world around us. Today, we're thrilled to showcase Oliver Rothman's documentary project, 'Plaza', a compelling exploration of resilience and community in Corona Plaza.

Through Rothman's lens, 'Plaza' offers a heartfelt glimpse into the lives of the food vendors who call Corona Plaza home. Despite facing numerous challenges, including economic hardship and others, these vendors display an unwavering commitment to their craft and community.

Their return to the plaza represents more than just a business endeavor—it symbolizes hope, determination, and the resilience of the human spirit. Just a few months after due to "significant issues regarding sanitation" the majority of vendors in Corona Plaza were forced to close their trucks and leave.

With evocative imagery and captivating storytelling, 'Plaza' invites viewers to immerse themselves in the daily lives of these resilient individuals.

As we journey through 'Plaza', we are reminded of the profound impact that documentary photography can have in amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and shedding light on important social issues. Rothman's work serves as a testament to the transformative power of visual storytelling, inspiring us to reflect on our own roles in creating positive change within our communities.

Join us as we celebrate the beauty and resilience found within 'Plaza', and embark on a journey of discovery and empathy.

Together, let's honor the stories of those who inspire us and reaffirm our commitment to creating a more just and compassionate world.
